John Darnton is an award-winning journalist and best-selling novelist. He worked for forty years for The New York Times as a reporter, foreign correspondent and editor. He won two George Polk Awards and the Pulitzer Prize. He has written five novels: Neanderthal, The Experiment (both on the NYTimes best-seller list), Mind Catcher, The Darwin Conspiracy and Black and White and Dead All Over.
Kevin Gosztola is a writer for Firedoglake.com, who regularly covers WikiLeaks, whistleblowing, secrecy and various issues created by the national security state of America. He had been regularly traveling to Fort Meade to cover the court martial of Pfc. Bradley Manning and co-authored Truth and Consequences: The US vs. Bradley Manning with The Nation's Greg Mitchell.

First, discussing Media coverage of Ukraine--Former Russia analyst at CIA and Russian Speaker
Raymond McGovern (born August 25, 1939) is a retired CIA officer turned political activist. McGovern was a CIA analyst from 1963 to 1990, and in the 1980s chaired National Intelligence Estimates and prepared the President's Daily Brief. He received the Intelligence Commendation Medal at his retirement, returning it in 2006 in protest at the CIA's involvement in torture. McGovern's post-retirement work includes commentating on intelligence issues and in 2003 co-founding Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity.
Second, we Focus On Venezuela Crisis with Dr. Lee Salter.
Dr Lee Salter is a lecturer in media and communications. He has taught and researched at a variety of institutions, including the Univeristy of the West of England, University of Verona and Royal Holloway. He leads the modules News, Politics and Power and Media, Publics and Protest, leads modules on the MA Journalism and supervises PhD students. Lee researches a variety areas includng conflict and the media, new technologies and media analysis. Among his studies: (2012) ‘Class, Nationalism and News: the BBC’s reporting of Hugo Chavez and the Bolivarian Revolution’, The International Journal of Media and Cultural Politics

In the first show with this new focus, we will be joined at 5 by Professor Mathew Cecil, of the Elliot School of Communications at Wichita State University, Mathew has a brilliant new book out called “Hoover’s FBI and the Fourth Estate: The Campaign to Control The Press and The Bureau’s Image.
n the second segment at 5:30l we will speak with Bob Holman, a poet who also runs the Bowery Poetry Café. Bob is doing a play commenting on the latest news from the Ukraine at Le Mama. Its called Captain John Smith Goes to the Ukraine
